International E-Waste Day 2021
International E-waste Day, founded by WEEE Forum, is celebrated worldwide on Thursday 14th October 2021.
What is International E-waste Day?
International E-waste Day 2021 aims to highlight the critical role each one of us needs to play in making circularity a reality in relation to E-waste.
International E-waste Day highlights the issues surrounding electronic waste. The aim is to encourage people to recycle or refurbish their redundant electronic waste responsibly but the ultimate goal is to increase the rate of recycling, not only on the day, but regularly.
Organisations worldwide get on board with the initiative by planning awareness raising activities for 14 October, coming together in a common effort to reduce the amount of E-waste that is incinerated or sent to landfill.
Why is E-waste an issue?
According to the United Nations, in 2021 each person on the planet will produce on average 7.6 kg of e-waste, meaning that a massive 57.4 million tonnes will be generated worldwide.
Only 17.4 per cent of this electronic waste containing a mixture of harmful substances and precious materials will be recorded as being properly collected, treated, and recycled.
The UK is currently one of the largest producers of household e-waste in the world. When broken or unwanted electronics are dumped in landfill, toxic substances like lead and mercury can leach into soil and water affecting communities closest to landfill sites.
E-waste is one of the fastest growing waste sources in the world.
How is Zixtel Supporting International E-waste Day 2021?
Last year for IEWD we set up an e-waste hub in our warehouse which saw a number of new customers drop off used, redundant or old IT equipment for refurbishment or recycling.
This year we aimed to do even better and have installed our very own recycling plant!
Our recycling machinery allows us to recycle E-waste in house when refurbishment isn’t an option. In the space of a year, circularity has become the core of Zixtel, and heavily influences the way we work.
We collect any and all, unwanted IT equipment, in any condition, to refurbish, resell, recycle, or refine, securely destroying any data in the process.
Nothing we collect goes to landfill. The products that we refurbish, go back onto the market, after being securely data wiped and refurbished by our team of expert technicians. Refurbishment will always be our first choice but there are options for all businesses when this isn’t a possibility.
Booking a collection with us couldn’t be easier! Simply fill out this form with details of the products you would like us to collect, and a member of our recycling team will then be in touch with a quick, no obligation quote. Where there is residual value in your IT kit, we will pay you for it!
Celebrate International E-waste Day by selling your redundant IT equipment to us to refurbish or recycle responsibly.
